A transit is a planet's current position and movement through the zodiac. When a planet stays in a sign, it colors that area of life for each sign for weeks, months or years, depending on how fast it moves.

What does retrograde mean?

Seen from Earth, a planet sometimes appears to slow down, stop and move backward through the zodiac for a while. That apparent backward motion is called retrograde. It starts and ends at a station, when the planet seems to stand still.

What is a retrograde shadow?

The shadow is the stretch of zodiac a planet covers three times: once going forward before it turns retrograde (the pre-shadow), once backward while retrograde, and once more going forward after it turns direct (the post-shadow), until it passes the degree where it first stationed.

Why do the dates differ slightly from other sites?

Dates here are for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Sites that show local times can land on the neighboring date when an event happens near midnight.

Transits are computed for 12:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) today. A planet’s sign period runs from the moment it entered its current sign to the moment it leaves; a planet that moves backward can re-enter the previous sign, which starts a new period.

Frequently asked questions

What is a transit?: A transit is a planet's current position and movement through the zodiac. When a planet stays in a sign, it colors that area of life for each sign for weeks, months or years, depending on how fast it moves.
What does retrograde mean?: Seen from Earth, a planet sometimes appears to slow down, stop and move backward through the zodiac for a while. That apparent backward motion is called retrograde. It starts and ends at a station, when the planet seems to stand still.
What is a retrograde shadow?: The shadow is the stretch of zodiac a planet covers three times: once going forward before it turns retrograde (the pre-shadow), once backward while retrograde, and once more going forward after it turns direct (the post-shadow), until it passes the degree where it first stationed.
Why do the dates differ slightly from other sites?: Dates here are for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Sites that show local times can land on the neighboring date when an event happens near midnight.
